Traffic Warrants in DeKalb County
For a DeKalb County or Tennessee Highway Patrol ticket where points may be assessed, the county says to choose an option within 30 days of issuance: pay, attend driver safety school if eligible, or contest on the citation date. Missing a date can create an FTA problem, but the county does not publish a traffic-warrant search or a warrant-specific issuance timeline.
General Sessions handles county and THP traffic matters listed on the county docket page. A Smithville or Alexandria citation may follow its municipal court. The court printed on the paper decides where the current case and any process are held.
DeKalb County's 30-Day Citation Window Has Three Paths
The county traffic page describes three original choices for an eligible ticket: pay, attend driver safety school, or contest on the date shown. The in-person class is listed at $206, on the first Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m.; the page says to arrive 15 to 20 minutes early and that doors lock at 5:05. Confirm the current schedule, eligibility, and fee with the clerk.
The page also lists DriveSafeOnline.org with code TNCOURT and Ticketschool.com/Tennessee with code dekalb10. The certificate and stated amount must reach the clerk under the county instructions. These are citation options, not a promise that a later warrant is cleared.
See the official traffic citation page before choosing an option.

How to Check for a DeKalb County Traffic Warrant
There is no public DeKalb traffic-warrant form or name field. Call the Circuit Court Clerk at 615-597-5711 with the citation or case number, date, and court named on the paper. Ask whether the file shows an FTA or warrant and what action the court allows.
- Read the issuing agency, court, citation number, and appearance date printed on the citation.
- For county or THP traffic, contact General Sessions through the Circuit Court Clerk; the county docket is informational only.
- For a Smithville ticket, call Police Records / City Court Clerk at 615-597-8210, extension 2; for Alexandria, ask Town Hall or police to route you.
- If a date was missed, ask the issuing clerk about warrant status, a new date, payment, or court action, then keep written proof.
DeKalb County Citation Fields Do Not Show Warrant Status
The number on a ticket helps staff find a case, but it is not a public warrant code. DeKalb does not publish a traffic search field list, name-matching rule, or active-status result. The clerk may use a case number or participant name to locate the record and identify the correct court.
A docket row can point to a scheduled session. It does not confirm whether an FTA was reported, a warrant issued, or a later order changed the status. Ask the clerk for the current record and next action.
What a Traffic Warrant Shows
No completed public traffic-warrant result was located. A citation or case record may identify the court, violation, date, and amount, but current warrant status must come from the issuing clerk. DeKalb has not published a local warrant-number format.
| Citation / case number | Use the number printed on the citation; no warrant code is public. |
|---|---|
| Violation / date | Use the citation and court notice to identify the ticket and required appearance. |
| Issuing court | General Sessions, Smithville City Court, Alexandria Town Court, or another named court. |
| Amount | Ask whether it is a fine, court cost, class cost, bond, or state fee. |
| Current action | Ask the clerk whether process is active, recalled, served, or replaced by a new setting. |
DeKalb County Payment Does Not Equal Warrant Recall
The county's online-payment page warns that paying before the scheduled court date is an admission of guilt that results in a misdemeanor conviction. It directs users to verify the amount with the clerk and says the clerk does not directly process cards. A payment page is not a blanket warrant-clearing route.
Ask what the payment covers, whether an appearance is required, and whether the court must issue a recall or compliance notice. A receipt is useful proof, but it is not necessarily a signed recall order or confirmation that each system updated.
Use the county's CourtFeePay instructions only after confirming the case and consequence with the clerk.
The payment page tells users to verify the amount; it does not say every payment recalls a traffic warrant.
Paying or Lifting a Traffic Warrant
First confirm the court and current entry with the clerk. A missed date may require court action rather than the original citation options. The fee schedule is effective July 1, 2026, displayed as an image, and subject to change; DeKalb publishes no warrant-specific amount in searchable text.
- Ask the issuing clerk whether a warrant or FTA is shown and what court action is permitted.
- Confirm the amount, payment channel, plea consequence, and whether an appearance or motion is still required.
- If safety school is offered, verify eligibility, schedule, fee, course code, and certificate delivery first.
- Keep the court receipt or order, then separately ask whether a Department of Safety release or reinstatement step remains.
Warning: A court payment, recall order, and Department of Safety reinstatement are distinct; confirm each required step with the office that controls it.
County and City Traffic Citations Use Different Courts
The county traffic instructions cover DeKalb County and Tennessee Highway Patrol tickets. A Smithville citation may stay with City Court; Alexandria's charter creates a Town Court. The public sources reviewed did not verify a consolidated municipal payment or warrant portal.
Use the court printed on the citation before choosing safety school or CourtFeePay. The Smithville contact is Police Records / City Court Clerk. For Alexandria, Town Hall or police can route a question to the Town Recorder. Dowelltown and Liberty contacts should identify the correct town or county custodian.
Do not assume a city citation is on the General Sessions docket.
A License Hold Is a Separate State Compliance Step
A traffic citation, court warrant, and driver-license suspension are related possibilities but separate records. Tennessee’s Department of Safety says a driver must first clear the local court requirement and then satisfy the state’s reinstatement requirements. Its current fee schedule lists a $65 reinstatement fee for failure to satisfy a moving-violation citation; that state fee is not a DeKalb court fine, bond amount, or warrant payment.
Confirm the court disposition and any required release with the clerk before contacting the state. If a state notice says the license is suspended, use the Department of Safety’s reinstatement instructions and check all listed requirements. A court payment alone does not prove that state records have updated, and state reinstatement does not itself recall court process.
The county’s traffic fee-schedule page is the source for its current court-fee material; the amounts can change.
The Tennessee Department of Safety reinstatement page explains state compliance steps.
Traffic Warrant vs FTA and License Holds
A court warrant is judicial process; an FTA is a missed court obligation that may trigger further court action; a license hold is a separate Department of Safety compliance step. One citation can involve more than one record, but they are not the same status.
| Mechanism | What Triggers It | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic warrant | Court process after a traffic matter | Confirm with the issuing court; no public lookup was found. |
| Failure to appear | Missed required court appearance | Ask what court action or setting followed. |
| License compliance | Court-reported FTA / FTP under state process | May require court satisfaction and separate Department of Safety steps. |
